National Dance Institute of New Mexico offers children an array of programming beyond our In-School and Residency Outreach Programs. Advanced Training is designed for children and teens who are inspired by our Outreach Programs and want to take the performing arts to the next level through advanced, after-school instruction.
Super Wonderful Advanced Teams (SWAT) and Celebration Teams
Dancers are selected from our In-school Programs to participate in this year-long
program of advanced study, in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Española, and selected
Residency sites. The teams meet once-a-week for three hours of intensive dance
training and additional choreography throughout the school year. In the Statewide
Residency Program, children participate in SWAT and Celebration Teams after-school
during the length of the residency program.
School for the Performing Arts (SPA)
This program provides dynamic, year-round, after-school classes in dance and musical
theater technique at The Dance Barns, including: Community Classes, offering a
solid foundation in dance through a variety of classes for children, teens,
and adults; and Company XCel, a pre-professional company comprising our most
advanced dancers. SPA is unique in that it provides access to ballet, jazz, tap,
and other performing arts classes to any child who wants to study, regardless of
his or her ability to pay.
Summer Institutes
Two annual three-week, full-day institutes provide advanced study opportunities to our
most highly-motivated and talented children from our Outreach Programs in northern New
Mexico, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and the Residencies. The curriculum includes ballet,
jazz, hip-hop, tap, modern, music theory, voice, advanced choreography, and a visual
arts project.
Broadway Theater Dance Workshop (BTDW)
Dancers ages 14-20 from across the United States travel to Santa Fe each summer to participate in this unique two-week musical theater intensive. Broadway professionals teach daily classes in ballet, jazz, tap, theater dance, voice, drama and choreography, and guest artists conduct Master Classes exclusively for workshop attendees. Final performances feature selections from Broadway shows. Please visit us at www.btdw.org. |
