NDI New Mexico at The Dance Barns requires regular, consistent attendance to ensure student success and progress. Our attendance policy ensures that our students have the best possible in-class and performance experiences.
Students enrolled through Level III are allowed six unexcused absences per class per school year, with no absences permitted after May 1. Three instances of lateness is considered one absence. Participation in end-of-year showcases is dependent upon regular attendance and students with more than six absences may not be permitted to participate. An absence may be excused by a doctor or school nurse’s note indicating illness. Other examples of excused absences include: family emergencies, religious holidays, mandatory school functions and poor driving conditions.
Students enrolled in Levels IV and V are allowed four unexcused absences per class per school year. College auditions/visits are considered excused absences. Advanced students who show a pattern of regular or repeated absence or tardiness will be required to meet with the Dance Barns Program Director.
If your child will be late or absent, please call the office at 795-7088. Certain classes may be made up at the discretion of the Director.
Class observation policy
We find that students make the greatest progress in class when they are least distracted and classes are closed for observation.
We do invite family and friends to visit classes during two “Watch Weeks” we offer each year (more for Creative Movement classes). These are noted on our bulletin boards and in our newsletter.
