Student Companies

JUNIOR COMPANY

Boys and Girls Age 12+

Students showing great dedication and motivation and who show the potential to be invited to join Company Xcel in the future, may be invited to join the Apprentice Company. As a member of the company, the student will receive:

• A Junior Company t-shirt
• individual appointments twice yearly to plot a course of study focused on the student’s interests/skills and which helps the student progress towards Company Xcel
• occasional opportunities to take master classes and special workshops from noted dance and theatre teachers visiting from around the country
• one comp ticket for each performance in which he/she participates

Junior Company dancers are expected to:

• maintain regular attendance in SPA classes with outstanding attention to promptness and dress code
• show exemplary behavior and serve as a role model
• maintain excellent attendance at rehearsals
• be available to perform with Xcel at community events
• attend all final rehearsals for performances (Company members who do not attend final rehearsals will not perform in that particular event.)

COMPANY XCEL

Boys and Girls Age 14+

Students at highly advanced levels of ability in dance, voice or acting may be invited to join Xcel. This is a highly selective process and students must show superior levels of commitment, dedication and potential. As a member, students receive:

• personal guidance in classes and progress toward goals
• formal individual meetings with the Xcel Company Director at least twice per year and informal meetings throughout the year
• regular opportunities to take master classes and workshops from noted artists
• opportunities to learn and perform original choreography set by visiting artists
• two comp tickets for each performance in which he/she participates
• advice and guidance about selecting, applying to and auditioning for college theatre/dance programs
• assistance with preparing applications & auditions for summer intensives
• opportunity to participate in work study at NDI-NM
• opportunity to earn funds for approved summer programs by working at NDI-NM and/or selling NDI-NM raffle tickets in the spring
• opportunity to apply for summer scholarship funds

Members of Company Xcel are expected to:

• demonstrate exemplary attention to attendance, promptness and dress code
• demonstrate outstanding behavior and serve as a role model
• be available to perform with Xcel at community events
• attend all spacing and technical rehearsals
• assist as needed with lower level performances or classes
