This NDI-NM pedagogy program was established to codify and disseminate the NDI methodology and to ensure a
consistently high standard in the quality of
NDI-NM instructors. Teaching Excellence® Teacher
Training includes a Two-week Intensive Introductory Workshop for aspiring NDI-NM instructors, and a year-long
apprentice training program for dance teachers working to become certified
NDI-NM instructors. To date, NDI-NM
has trained 52 teachers, 17 of whom have stayed in New Mexico to work with NDI-NM in our programs.
The Teaching Excellence® Plan for Seeding New Communities is our comprehensive strategy for establishing
NDI-NM-style programs in cities throughout the United States. This two-year program identifies and trains
artistic and administrative staff, assists in securing non-profit status and funding, helps initiate a
local program in the public schools, and provides ongoing
support to the new community.

Two-Week Intensive Introductory Workshop
September 1 - 12, 2008

This introductory workshop, conducted in Santa Fe public elementary schools and at our facility,
The Dance Barns, is an introduction to the award-winning and proven teaching techniques of the Institute.
Originally developed by Jacques d'Amboise and evolved and adapted by NDI-NM, these techniques are delivered
in a highly focused, hands-on training program through classroom observation and participation, and by
assisting Master NDI-NM teachers. Dancers interested in teaching for NDI-NM are required to take this workshop.
Requirements
Trainees must have extensive dance training and a sincere desire to work with children. Trainees will
be invited to participate based upon their applications, and preference will be given to those with a
professional performance background (some applicants may be asked to provide a video of themselves dancing).
Trainees will be expected to have read through the training manual prior to the first class, and be
ready to work hard. This teaching technique is highly physical and requires a fit body. Dance attire should
consist of sneakers and comfortable clothing.
