A Message for all students about Appropriate Clothing

NDI-NM supports an atmosphere that is appropriate for people of all ages. For this reason, we require that all female students be conscious of lingerie under dance clothing. Please be sure that all lingerie is covered fully by leotards or t-shirts. Lingerie and any underwear that is visible under dance clothing is not acceptable. Please do not wear bare midriff tops or pants that rest below the hip bone. Be mindful that clothing moves a great deal during stretching and dance combinations and that low cut tops or pants may inadvertently reveal more than you expect.

Costume information

Very often costumes for end of year performances are closely related to the dress code for that particular class (i.e. ballet class girls may wear black leotards and pink tights for performance). In addition, students are expected to provide their own “personal” wear for performances which includes shoes and tights or dance belts. It is important to adhere to the dress code during the year because many of these pieces will be needed for performance.

Attendance

  • Attendance is taken within the first five minutes of every class. If you arrive 5 minutes late, you must check in with the SPA office. A student who misses more than 5 classes within the school year or is consistently late may not be allowed to participate in classes/performances. If your child must miss class, please call the SPA office at 795-7088, to notify them of the absence. Certain classes may be made up. Please check with the SPA office.

Student Assessment and Placement

  • NDI-NM reserves the right to move students to the appropriate class at any time during the year. Students are continuously evaluated throughout their participation in the SPA program. Students do not automatically move up to the next level each year as our program is based on ability and experience.

Shoes

  • Shoes can be purchased locally at KICKS (on Cerrillos Road) - all NDI-NM dancers recieve a 10% discount, as well as Target, Wal-mart, Payless, or online at www.discountdance.com.

  • Once a student outgrows their shoes, the SPA office will exchange those shoes for another size.  The shoes the student turns in must still be in good condition.

Tuition and Refunds

  • All tuition is due at the time of registration. Tuition refunds and credits will only be given within the first month of the school year or before the first day of summer classes.  No refunds or credits will be given once this date has passed.

Rules

  • Students must be in accordance with the dress code at all times.
  • Students must be dropped off 10 minutes prior to class time and sign-in.
  • Students must be picked up promptly after class. There will be a 10-minute grace period for supervision after class. If a parent must be late picking up a student, he/she must call the SPA office at (505) 795-7088.
  • No food or drink is allowed in studios or the lobby. Food must be eaten in the Scene Shop.
  • No hanging on ballet barres in the studios.
  • No playing with Tiny Tot props: these are learning tools, not toys.
  • No pets allowed in classes.
  • Students must wear shoes and clothing over their dance attire when entering and exiting the building.
  • Visitors are allowed only by permission of the instructor.

Snow Days

  • NEW POLICY -- IMPORTANT:
Due to the fact that our classes are in the afternoon, it is often ineffective for SPA to follow the Santa Fe Public School Snow Cancellations (as those decisions are made in the early morning). As of Fall 2008, SPA will make its own decisions regarding inclement weather. The SPA phone, 795-7088, will be updated NO LATER THAN 2pm with information regarding that afternoon’s classes. Please call the SPA line after 2pm and listen to the message. Please do not call the main NDI-NM line. The NDI-NM website will also post a notice regarding afternoon classes. Check the site at www.ndi-nm.org.

For more information about any of our classes, please contact Donna Scheer, SPA Director at donna@ndi-nm.org and Dayna Velasco, SPA Producer at dayna@ndi-nm.org or call (505) 795-7088.
