Winter Dance Escape
February 24 and 25, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

NDI New Mexico’s annual winter performance includes a world premiere of El Salon Nuevo Mexico choreographed by Hiland Artistic Director Evelyn Cisneros-Legate and Stephen Legate D.C. to the music of Aaron Copland. Joining the performance are guest artists Garrett Anderson NMSA Dance Department Chair, Ana Lopez of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and an excerpt from Swan Lake by the New Mexico Ballet Company.
The sizzling Suite Kander choreographed by Broadway superstar Ann Reinking will round out the program with a cast of NDI New Mexico’s most accomplished dancers – members of Company XCel, Apprentice Company, and Junior Company.

NDI New Mexico’s annual winter performance includes Charleston, a sizzling Jerome Robbins piece staged by Broadway stars Charlotte d’Amboise and Mary Ann Lamb; and a new production of the Russian fairy tale, Firebird, directed by Allegra Lillard, to a stunning score by Stravinsky. The cast includes NDI New Mexico’s most accomplished dancers – members of Company XCel, Apprentice Company, and Junior Company. NDI New Mexico is honored to host the premiere of Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company’s 25th Anniversary International Tour on March 18, 2017. Burgess, a native of Santa Fe and the Smithsonian’s first-ever choreographer-in-residence, creates stunning choreography focused on topics of identity, heritage, belonging and being a hyphenated American. As a U.S. Department of State Cultural Ambassador, Burgess and his company have toured in more than 30 countries. Burgess states that “contemporary dance has the capacity to bring different cultures together in the shared language of movement.”
Burgess’ season begins in his hometown of Santa Fe and will culminate with a performance at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the spring of 2018. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience a world-renowned dance company in Santa Fe!
