This is NDI New Mexico’s eleventh year in Hobbs. Led by NDI New Mexico’s Residency Assistant Director, Emma Raker, and Residency Music Director Joel Fadness, the curriculum of the two-week residency encourages healthy attitudes, self-discipline, and creativity – and provides students with an opportunity to perform in front of their peers and community.
Route 66: Legends of the Road! offers a creative and fun homage to our beloved Route 66, with its music created from coast to coast through our great cities and the wild west. The show and supporting curriculum will help students and classroom teachers make content connections between what they learn in the classroom to the concepts that students will be dancing about in their performances.
The Hobbs Residency is part of NDI New Mexico’s statewide Outreach Program, which places a certified instructor and professional pianist in classes in 118 schools throughout New Mexico as part of the school’s curriculum. NDI New Mexico also trains classroom teachers to get students up and moving and incorporates kinesthetic techniques into language arts and math core curricula. All NDI New Mexico programs are character-building and use dance to teach an important life lesson – that working hard, doing your best, never giving up, and living a healthy life equals success.
