NDI New Mexico Named Nonprofit of the Year

Santa Fe, NM — November 13, 2020 –The National Dance Institute of New Mexico—NDI New Mexico—has been named the 2020 New Mexico Nonprofit of the Year by the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. The organization was selected from a pool of over a dozen nominated organizations.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the Hispano Chamber and are encouraged that, even in a year as challenging as 2020, our programs are still making a difference for youth across the state,” said Steven Melendez, Hiland Artistic Director for NDI New Mexico. “This is a true testament to the ingenuity and passion of our staff, instructors and of course, our dedicated students. We are grateful to the Hispano Chamber for recognizing the impact NDI New Mexico has on improving the overall well-being of New Mexico students.”

With adherence to NDI New Mexico’s Core Four values — work hard, do your best, never give up, and be healthy — NDI New Mexico has expanded their programs over the past year with online classes, seasonal programs and virtual dance breaks for those engaging in remote learning. NDI New Mexico celebrated its 25th year of bringing dance education and youth development to New Mexico classrooms in 2019, and regularly reaches over 8,000 children in schools statewide and after-school programs — over 80% of whom are experiencing poverty. NDI New Mexico programs seek to enrich overall academic performance and participation as well as provide a healthy, joyful, and creative outlet as part of a well-rounded education.

Russell Baker, Executive Director of NDI New Mexico shared, “The Hispano Chamber of Commerce represents leadership and excellence in our community.  NDI New Mexico relies on the generous support of our donors and community partners, like the Hispano Chamber, to help children achieve success.  We are grateful for that support and need it now more than ever during this very challenging time for the children and families of New Mexico so that they can continue to benefit from our programs.”
